Postpartum Therapy in NYC
Offering Virtual Therapy Across New York and New Jersey
This stage of life can be deeply meaningful and joyful, with moments you don’t want to miss.
And at the same time, it can feel much harder than you expected.
Not “a little overwhelming.”
Not “an adjustment.”
Hard.
You may find yourself wishing it didn’t feel this hard so you could just enjoy it more.
You are recovering physically, not sleeping enough, and responsible for a baby who needs you constantly. The mental load is nonstop. There is no real off switch.
You don’t need to minimize it. And you don’t need to wait until you’re at a breaking point to get support.
You can book a free 15 minute consultation below to talk through what’s going on and see if this feels like a good fit.
You don’t have to commit to ongoing therapy to book this call.
Understanding What You’re Experiencing
What’s happening isn’t just that this stage is hard.
It’s that there’s no real off switch.
Your day doesn’t have a clear beginning or end. You’re constantly anticipating, responding, and keeping track of what’s next — even when you’re sitting still or trying to rest. Part of your mind is always on.
Over time, that starts to take a toll. You can feel both wired and exhausted at the same time, like your body is tired but your system doesn’t fully settle.
It can also make you more reactive than you want to be. Things feel harder to tolerate. Small moments can feel like a lot. And then there’s often guilt for feeling that way, especially when you thought this stage would feel different.
There isn’t much space to reset, and without that, everything starts to build.
It’s not just one thing. It’s the accumulation of being “on” all day, every day, without a real break and starting to feel like you don’t know who you are anymore.
How Therapy Can Help
Therapy creates space for you to come out of that constant “on” state so you’re not moving through your day already overwhelmed.
We focus on slowing things down internally so you’re not always reacting, anticipating, or trying to hold everything together at once.
We also look at what you’re carrying that may be adding pressure. This may include the expectation to do everything “right”, to anticipate everyone’s needs or take full responsibility. It can also include external stressors such as managing family dynamics.
Over time, this helps your system settle more. You feel less on edge, less depleted, and more able to move through your day without everything feeling so intense.
This shift can happen even when your managing many demands. It doesn’t take everything away, but it changes how you’re carrying it.
How I Work
My approach is thoughtful and grounded in both insight and practical support.
I start by creating a space where you can be honest about what this is actually like, without minimizing it or feeling like you should be handling it differently, or simply have a space to talk.
From there, we look at your thoughts to understand if there are underlying patterns or cycles we can begin to challenge.
At times, we may also explore how your upbringing or past experiences shape how you’re experiencing this stage, especially around responsibility, expectations, and how you respond to stress.
We also look at your day-to-day to see if there are ways to offload tasks and make things feel more manageable.
Over time, we can also explore whether EMDR is a good fit. EMDR helps get to the root of what’s driving certain patterns, rather than just talking about them, and allows those experiences to be processed in a way that isn’t only cognitive, but also somatic. This can help the insight we bring to light actually shift how you feel day to day, not just how you understand things.
